Wisdom 101

Where does our wisdom come from or rather where should our wisdom come from? Often times we forget to go to the one place it can always be found. Seeking wisdom only comes with prayer and searching God’s Word. Why then do we forget the basic principles of wisdom? My roots are in education so my first reaction is to investigate, research and discover a solution. I need to know the steps to resolve the problem, make the plan and see the big picture. Fortunately, God will often stop me somewhere along my journey and I am forced to wait and succumb to the “P” word… patience. If serving in the small African country of Burundi has taught me nothing else it has taught me patience and the art of proceeding “buke, buke” ( pronounced boo-ke, boo-ke) or slowly, slowly. It is difficult to accept this strategy when I am in Burundi for no more than 4 weeks at a time and some tasks that normally take a few minutes take hours, days or longer. Such is the life of living/working in another culture! The other word of wisdom that comes to mind is the “K” word …kindness. It actually is the root of all wisdom. Showing others kindness in all situations can bring wise words, wise actions and wise use of our resources. Kindness involves putting others before self. If we follow the rule of kindness then we have begun “Wisdom 101”!

So many things have been happening with the Burundi Hope Project since my return in June! Students have been gradually leaving for their summer holiday; the Agriculture team had a two day strategy retreat; Discovery School uniforms are wrapping up for the Sewing Center; Women of Hope Seminars resumed ; and a send off for the Bassett family to the US. Summer holiday is supposed to be down time but this is not the case in 2025!

God BLess!

Samuel Project Summer Kick Off

We are kicking off our Summer Funding Focus for the Samuel Project. The Samuel Project is our umbrella program for all things educational! We assist children and staff at two special needs schools: Ephphatha Deaf School and Kanura School for the Blind. Contributions can help provide field trips; educational resources; and salary support for special needs staff. We are also taking it one step further by advocating for students who leave the schools for either higher education or vocational training. Burundi Hope can assist students at the University level with assistive technology; vocational skills training through internships or temporary housing for internship opportunities. Here are some recipients of Samuel Project support!

Meet Alfred—an outstanding example of what's achievable. He began at Kanura School for the Blind at age 10 and is now prepared to return to teach in 2026.

Now?  Alfred is attending university to become a teacher so he can teach students who share his background and experiences.

Support students like Alfred—your action can change a life!

Meet Chanceline! A deaf student who overcame an assault and was able to complete her secondary school education. Burundi Hope assisted in finding a foster home for Chanceline and her little girl, Santiana

She will return to Ephphatha Deaf School to teach Preschool in 2025.

Charlene (on the right), a recent Sewing Class graduate hopes to participate in a Sewing Center internship in September. Claudine stood with her at her graduation since she has no other family support. She will likely live at Hope House during her internship, Hope House offers temporary housing for young women for a variety of reasons.

To date we have received $4900 in contributions to support the Samuel Project. We appreciate your prayers and resources to help us empower these special students and transform their futures! Burundi Hope is blessed to advocate for them!
